Same River

When I was in high school history was a textbook kinda thing.  Heck, when I was in 4th grade it was–absurdly skewed southern history by death is what it seemed like at the time.

History has changed.  Not just in content but delivery.

Does the relevance of Fahrenheit 451 change at all if you know it was published in Playboy?

Kinda, yeah…

Or that the Romantics were the tame rhetorical leftovers of the bloody French Revolution?

Or that Jack London was raised by a former slave?

You could go on and on (like Herodotus, I suppose)–these stories of humans.

Only now the medium has changed. YouTube may have a lot of flotsam and jetsam, but amid the chaos these are the rich pickings of history.

Makes me want to burn that old Alabama history textbook I once abhorred…
