The others

July 7, 2014

When she was very young my oldest daughter told the most beautiful stories.

She had an extra family–a fly grandma and a blue grandma, each with an interesting SO and evocative hobbies–sky diving, convertible sports car driving, cave dwelling, and swing dancing.

These women inspired me to be like them. One day, I thought, I need to be like these imaginary grandmothers, silk scarves streaming behind them in the wind.

Working on it.

Meanwhile her younger brother seems to have acquired her gift.

On the way to a firework display he urged us to “take 17 road, it is the fastest.”

He has had one hundred brothers over one hundred years.

He has another mother who lives in Africa with a colorfully named posse of children.

His other father sports an eye patch.

I love all these people and the amazing children who bring them to life.
