Leonardo da Vinci

September 16, 2012

We are walking home in the dark
And our conversation turns to an unborn child
A baby girl we pray for

My older daughter speaks
As her sister glimmers
And snakes down the street on her board

She tells me about Leonardo
His mother, the servant
Girl
Who could only snatch glimpses
Of her son
His uncle? Nicolas
Who taught him how to dissect
The living world
And all those beautiful mothers
Haunting his canvas
Calling him back to her
Madonna, ma Donna
